Get a decision on your application

As soon as we finish processing your permanent residence application, we’ll let you know our decision.

If we accept your application

If your application has been properly completed and includes all the required documents and if you meet the requirements, we will send you a letter informing you of the decision on your case and instructions on what you must do next.

If we reject your application

If we reject your permanent residence application, we will send you a letter explaining the decision and the reason(s) for the refusal.

You may still have protected person status and be eligible to stay in Canada as a protected person.

If you disagree with our decision, you can apply to the Federal Court of Canada for a review.

In some exceptional circumstances, if you’re ineligible to become a permanent resident, you may be able to apply on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.
