  • you’re outside Canada and
  • your flight back to Canada is leaving within the next 5 days

Without a PR card or a PRTD, you can travel to Canada only by land using a private vehicle , like a car.

How to apply urgently for a PRTD

Follow these steps:

    • proof of travel that shows your destination and travel dates, such as
      • your itinerary
      • a copy of your ticket
    • a copy of the receipt for your trip that shows the
      • date
      • amount paid
      • payment method

      • doctor’s note
      • death certificate
      • letter from your employer
    • if applicable, English or French translations of your documents
  3. Check that your documents are clear and easy to read.
    • If they aren’t, we’ll need to ask you to resubmit your documents. This will delay your application.
  4. Tell us that your application is urgent.
    • If you’re applying online, check “Yes, my request is urgent” in the Permanent Residence Portal.
    • If you need to apply on paper, write “urgent” on the envelope.

If your application isn’t showing, and you haven’t received an acknowledgement of receipt, follow the steps below to submit a new application.

    • You must resubmit all documents with the new application, such as
      • another set of photos
      • all your supporting documents
      • certified copies of documents, if applicable
  2. You also need to include all these documents:
