2023 interim work authorization for some current and former post-graduation work permit holders

During the week of April 3, we’ll send you an email to let you know that you’re allowed to work temporarily in Canada under a temporary public policy. This applies to you if your post-graduation work permit (PGWP) has expired or will expire between September 20, 2021, and December 31, 2023.

You can show this email to employers to prove that you can work in Canada until May 31, 2024, while you wait for a new open work permit for current and former PGWP holders.

How to use this email

Print and attach this email to your expired PGWP and show it to your employer as proof that you can work in Canada. If your employer has questions about this email, show them this web page.

Who you can work for

This email allows you to work under the same conditions that are listed on your PGWP.

If you’re outside Canada

You cannot use this email to travel to Canada and start working. However, you can still apply for a new open work permit of up to 18 months, if you’re eligible to do so, and return to Canada if it is approved.
