Lingua Franca: A Common language for conservators of photographic materials features multilingual definitions of photographic processes, condition issues, treatment options, preventative care, and technical studies. It also provides commonly used terms, briefly defined and illustrated with photographs and interactive features, such as links to collection items, podcasts, videos, blogs, and Flickr albums.

About the content

The fourth edition offers Portuguese translations contributed by Luisa Casella, independent photograph conservator; Clara Mosciaro, conservation supervisor, Instituto Moreira Salles; Guilherme Dias, Jessica Silva, and Tatiana Novás, photograph conservators; and a group of conservators and scholars from NOVA FCT’s Department of Conservation and Restoration, led by Assistant Professor Élia Roldão, PhD.

The third edition offers Spanish translations by the Fundación Comillas (CIESE-Comillas) and David Iglésias Franch, President of the Photographic and Audiovisual Archives Working Group of the International Council on Archives.

Both the Spanish and Portuguese versions are available on Apple Books.

Launched in collaboration with the Atelier de Restauration et de Conservation des Photographies de la Ville de Paris, Lingua Franca supports LAC's mission to lead in archival and library science, integrating innovative technologies into the field.
