October 3, 2025 – The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will host the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting taking place in the Niagara Region, in Ontario on November 11 and 12, 2025.
“We, the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the High Representative of the European Union, stand united in our support for the E3 activation of the snapback reimposing United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctions and other restrictions against Iran. This action is the result of the Iranian Government’s continued failure to meet its requirements under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In 2003, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed the existence of previously undeclared nuclear facilities in Iran, in violation of its Safeguards Agreement under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). Despite international calls, Iran refused to suspend proliferation-sensitive activities. In February 2006, the IAEA Board of Governors reported Iran’s nuclear program to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). In response, the UNSC imposed a series of sanctions between December 2006 and June 2010 to curb Iran’s expanding nuclear capacity.
