Marco Mendicino, Member of Parliament for Eglinton – Lawrence, on behalf of the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, Catherine McKenna, today commemorated the national historic significance of Father Henry Carr.
A priest of the Congregation of St. Basil and a leading figure in the history of higher education in Canada, Father Carr promoted the creation of Catholic colleges at secular universities in Canada.
Today, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Minister responsible for Parks Canada and Member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre, Catherine McKenna, announced a new paddle access point on the Rideau Canal National Historic Site at Waverley Street. Minister McKenna hosted a community paddle to celebrate the launch of the newest and third paddle access point in the heart of Canada’s capital.

Christ Church Cathedral is a highly visible and prominent urban landmark in downtown Montréal and an excellent example of Gothic Revival style in Canada. Built between 1857 and 1860, it perfectly illustrates the architectural theories of Augustus Welby Pugin and the Cambridge Camden Society, two passionate voices which dictated the form the Anglican cathedral would take in the second half of the 19th century.
Today, Parks Canada and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada recognized the national historic significance of Christ Church Cathedral. A special ceremony was held at the cathedral with representatives of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada and Christ Church Cathedral in attendance.
