Mallard Cottage is typical of the housing built by immigrants from southeast Ireland who settled in Newfoundland during the first half of the nineteenth century. Built between 1820 and 1840, this picturesque frame cottage served as the home of the Mallard family who settled in the village of Quidi Vidi in the early 19th century, just outside the present-day city of St. John's.
Parks Canada and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada will take part in a plaque unveiling ceremony to commemorate the national historic significance of Mallard Cottage as a national historic place.
