Following the 2025 United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial (UNPKM) meeting in Berlin, Germany, Canada committed to providing more than $40 million in new projects and contributions to continue supporting UN peace operations and related peacebuilding efforts.
The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable David McGuinty, Minister of National Defence, and the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, Minister of Public Safety, today announced new commitments in support of UN peace operations following the 2025 United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial (UNPKM) meeting hosted by Germany in Berlin.
The governments of Australia, Canada and New Zealand today issued the following statement after the APEC ministerial meetings on human resources development, education and trade:
“On the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, Canada stands in solidarity with Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and other sexually- and gender-diverse individuals worldwide. We support those facing discrimination or violence solely for being themselves. No one should be denied their dignity or human rights because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.
This morning, on behalf of the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), Government Film Commissioner and NFB Chairperson Suzanne Guèvremont argued for the need to include cultural elements in the definition of Canadian programming. She also spoke to the vital role that documentary film plays in Canada.
