On January 26, 2022, an inmate from Drumheller Institution died while in our custody following a serious assault in the medium security unit. The assailant has been identified and the appropriate actions have been taken. No staff members or other inmates were injured during this incident.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) advises that 23 inmates at Stony Mountain Institution in Manitoba have tested positive for COVID-19. The health and safety of our employees, inmates, and the public continue to be our top priority. We are closely monitoring the situation, and measures are in place to minimize spread of the virus within the institution.

Today, Chief Andy Rickard of Garden River First Nation; the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Crown–Indigenous Relations; and the Honourable Greg Rickford, Ontario Minister of Indigenous Affairs, are announcing funding of $1,485,770 in support of the Garden River First Nation Survivors Project to assist with this important work.
