The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement: “Multilateralism and diplomacy are essential to peace in our world. Over decades, Canada and its global partners have painstakingly built a global security system based on just a few key principles: the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states, the peaceful resolution of disputes and the protection of human rights. Diplomacy is the glue that holds this remarkable system together.
In response to Russia’s invasion, Canada has joined its partners and allies in imposing the strongest sanctions ever inflicted on a major economy, while also directly sanctioning President Putin and over 900 other Russian individuals and entities. Canada has also provided immediate support to Ukraine and its people, and has offered two bilateral sovereign loans to Ukraine, worth up to CA$620 million. Canada will continue to do more in the weeks and months to come.
Today, at the Invictus Games closing ceremonies in The Hague, Netherlands, Harry, Duke of Sussex, announced that the Invictus Games 2025 will be held in Vancouver and Whistler, British Columbia.
