The Minister of Transport, Pablo Rodriguez, announced today that the Government of Canada is making major investments in improving safety at the Brandon Municipal Airport.
Canada’s local and regional airports keep our communities connected and create good, middle-class jobs. From visiting friends and family, to supporting essential medical services and food supply, and getting goods to market, we rely on our local airports to sustain safe and vibrant communities across the country.
Transport Canada, through Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), launched a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the High Frequency Rail (HFR) project, in February 2023. The RFQ closed on April 24, 2023. The Government of Canada evaluated four responses from Canadian and international consortia, and three consortia have been invited to participate in the Request for Proposals (RFP) that launched on October 13, 2023.
The High Frequency Rail project will be the largest Canadian infrastructure project in generations. Once operational, the rail line will span the Québec City to Toronto corridor with dedicated passenger tracks. This transformational project will provide clean, safe, and efficient travel, drive our economy, and strengthen our partnerships with Indigenous communities.
Today, the Minister of National Revenue, Marie-Claude Bibeau, accompanied by the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Pascale St-Onge, and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, Élisabeth Brière, on behalf of the Minister of Transport and Quebec Lieutenant, Pablo Rodriguez, announced the streamlining of the process for all orders of government, including municipalities, for asking the federal government to restrict the use of boats on lakes and rivers.
The Minister of National Revenue, the Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, the Minister of Canadian Heritage, the Honourable Pascale St-Onge and the member of Parliament for Sherbrooke, Ms. Élisabeth Brière, will make an announcement regarding regulations on our lakes and rivers.
