The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement on the latest missile launches by North Korea: “North Korea continues to violate United Nations Security Council resolutions. Its most recent missile launches, including the February 18, 2023, launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile that landed in Japan’s exclusive economic zone, and the February 20 launch of two short-range ballistic missiles that landed in the East Sea, are acts of aggression that threaten regional and international peace and security.

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement to mark the second anniversary of the launch of the Declaration Against Arbitrary Detention in State-to-State Relations: “Two years ago today, Canada launched the Declaration Against Arbitrary Detention in State-to-State Relations as part of an international effort to deter and put an end to the practice of arbitrary arrest, detention and sentencing of individuals for leverage over another state.
We, the participating States of the International Partnership against Impunity for the Use of Chemical Weapons, stand together to preserve the international standards and norms against the use of chemical weapons by anyone, anywhere, under any circumstances.
The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement: “Canada is concerned by the Government of Israel’s announcement that it will attempt to retroactively legalize nine illegal settlement outposts in the West Bank, as well as its plans to pursue the construction of new housing in existing settlements.
“No child should ever be made to participate in war, yet children continue to be cruelly exploited in armed conflicts worldwide. Children—including boys and girls—serve as soldiers, cooks, porters, messengers, spies, and sexual slaves."
