Transport Canada is proposing new regulations to replace the Railway Safety Management System Regulations (SMS Regulations) that came into force in 2001. The new SMS Regulations, which are expected to be published in Canada Gazette, Part I, in July 2014, will modernize existing requirements and help railways better identify and manage safety risks.

On June 28, 2014, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission's (CNSC) proposed Packaging and Transport of Nuclear Substances Regulations, 2014 were published in Part I of the Canada Gazette in order to provide an opportunity for interested Canadians to review and comment. Consultation on the draft regulations will be open for a period of 75 days. Comments must be submitted to the CNSC by September 11, 2014
