The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued a statement regarding the case of Hiva Mohammad Alizadeh, who pleaded guilty today to making or having in his possession an explosive substance with intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property, for the benefit of a terrorist group. Mr. Alizadeh has been sentenced to 24 years in federal prison.
In 1980, Terry Fox ran his legendary Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research. His goal was to raise just one dollar per Canadian by running across the country. Every day, for 143 days, this young man completed the equivalent of one marathon, running on an artificial leg.
