The Canada Employment Insurance Commission (CEIC) today announced that the EI Maximum Insurable Earnings (MIE) for 2015 will increase to $49,500 from $48,600 in 2014. The MIE is indexed on an annual basis and represents the ceiling up to which EI premiums are collected and the maximum amount considered in applications for EI benefits.

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal today initiated an inquiry to determine whether the dumping and subsidizing of concrete reinforcing bar originating in or exported from the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Turkey have caused injury or retardation or are threatening to cause injury. This final injury inquiry was initiated further to a notice received from the Canada Border Services Agency stating that preliminary determinations had been made respecting the dumping and subsidizing of the above-mentioned goods.
