The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, took the opportunity while visiting Matagami to announce the awarding of $430,000 in repayable funding toward the establishment of an innovative luxury ecotourism complex called the ÉCOlodge. This project, the only one of its kind in Quebec, is part of a regional recovery plan aimed at developing the ecotourism sector.

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is inviting the public to take part in several educational and family activities as part of the Tremblant Beneath the Stars and Perseids event. The Perseids represent the time of the year when the number of shooting stars is at its highest point. Every hour, several dozen shooting stars die out in the Earth's atmosphere providing an impressive display. Due to its summertime appearance, the Perseids tend to provide the majority of meteors to be seen by non-astronomy enthusiasts.

The National Research Council Canada (NRC) and the Oil Crops Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences have signed an agreement to collaborate on genetic research to improve the production of canola. Over the next five years, the Oil Crops Research Institute will contribute $300,000 in cash and the NRC Plant Biotechnology Institute (NRC-PBI) will contribute $210,000 worth of facilities and analytical resources to complete the first project under this agreement.
