More than 2 million Canadian children have benefited from the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) since it was launched in July 2006. Early in 2006, Prime Minister Stephen Harper made a commitment to support Canadian families and give them real choice in child care. The Government of Canada is delivering on that promise by providing families with monthly cheques of $100 for every child under the age of six.
Today the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, along with the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and Regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, announced an investment of $282,180 to support a crime prevention project called Building Knowledge for Community Safety in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, took the opportunity of today's 2008 season kick-off to announce that Ferme Roger Bourdages et Fils Inc. has received $75,000 in non-repayable funding for the acquisition of specialized manufacturing equipment. Awarded under the Community Economic Diversification Initiative ¿ Vitality, these funds will serve to help the firm carry out its expansion plan, a project that will necessitate an overall investment of nearly $800,000 and lead to the creation of six new jobs in the area.
