Denis Lebel, MP for Roberval-Lac-Saint-Jean, on behalf of the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, and the Minister of Natural Resources and Wildlife and Minister responsible for the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Region, Claude Béchard, on behalf of the Deputy Premier and Minister of Municipal Affairs and Regions, Nathalie Normandeau, are pleased to announce that the City of Métabetchouan-Lac-à-Croix will receive $293,506 under the federal-provincial agreement on the transfer of a portion of federal gasoline excise tax revenues and the Government of Québec's contribution. This is the first payment to Métabetchouan-Lac-à-Croix which will receive a total of $733,768 by the end of 2009, for important infrastructure projects.

The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of Labour and Minister of Canada Economic Development, today unveiled the first phase of his 2008-2011 Strategic Plan entitled Major Economic and Tourism Facilities. Backed by a $67 million budget over three years, this phase will be devoted to the establishment of community economic facilities as well as to the development of major tourism projects centred on four main elements.

The event took place at the Maison des cultures amérindiennes, in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec. Two other designations were made in Plessisville, Quebec, and in McDonalds Corners, Ontario.

Export growth is expected to remain flat until mid-2009 as the global economy continues to slow, according to the quarterly Global Export Forecast released today by Export Development Canada (EDC). The title of the forecast is "Now What?", a reference to the heightened uncertainty that exporters and analysts are experiencing in assessing the current global economic slowdown.
