4. After you apply

Fire-resilient homes

If your application is approved:

  1. Build your fire-resilient home
  2. Provide builder attestation confirming your home meets the fire-resilient requirements on the checklist we will provide
  3. Receive a $27,000 non-repayable grant

Fire-resilient and Net zero or Net Zero Ready homes

If your application is approved:

  1. Hire either a certified builder or a certified Net Zero builder (search the Canadian Home Builders' Association’s member directory to find a list of qualified Net Zero builders)
  2. Design a Net Zero or Net Zero Ready home
  3. Receive a $5,000 non-repayable design grant
  4. Start building your home
  5. At the midpoint of your build, provide a B.C. energy advisor report showing your progress
  6. Receive a mid-build grant of 30% of your Net Zero or Net Zero Ready build amount
  7. Complete your build
  8. Provide:
    • a builder attestation confirming your home meets the fire-resilient requirements on the checklist we will provide; and
    • a Net Zero or Net Zero Ready Label or a B.C. energy advisor report confirming the home can produce as much energy as it uses each year
  9. Receive a completion grant:
    • Net Zero homes: $24 per square foot (based on the size of your original home at the time of the fire) plus $72,000 minus your mid-build payment
    • Net Zero Ready homes: $24 per square foot (based on the size of your original home at the time of the fire) plus $39,500 minus your mid-build payment
