Laboratory Technologist – indeterminate appointment (EG-05)
Salary ranging from $78,909 to $99,200 Isolated post allowance (Northern living allowance) ranging from $24,581 to $48,343 for those located in the North.
This position is English Essential and is located in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.

The Laboratory Technician will work closely with the Laboratory Manager, laboratory technicians, and other members of the CHARS Operations branch to see to the proper functioning and availability of the Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS) laboratories. The laboratory technician will play an important role in the occupational health and safety department, such as reviewing procedures, conducting inspections, and applying corrective measures. They will collaborate and provide support to POLAR and visiting researchers, deploy and maintain laboratory equipment (microscopes, thermocyclers, autoclaves, growth chambers, liquid nitrogen generator, etc.), coordinate requests for laboratory space, monitor laboratory activities, and maintain the laboratory's equipment, consumables and hazardous material inventory. They will also be responsible for some scheduling, providing orientations, supervising users, troubleshooting issues, supporting procurement of equipment and supplies, and other laboratory-related tasks.

The job requirements
Education
Successful completion of two years of a post-secondary program with acceptable specialization in a scientific field.
Notes
- It is the recognized educational institution (e.g. community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines whether the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at that institution.
- The courses for the specialization must be acceptable and may have been taken at a recognized post-secondary institution, but not necessarily within a degree program in the required specialization.
Experience
- EX1: Experience carrying out assigned technical data collection, compilation, processing or verification in a research environment
- EX2: Experience reading, analyzing, extracting and synthesizing information including drafting, writing and assisting in the preparation of laboratory documents, protocols and reports
- EX3: Experience working and carrying out various laboratory related tasks in a laboratory environment
- EX4:Experience maintaining and operating scientific instruments and equipment
- EX5: Experience with occupational health and safety within a laboratory setting
