Today, the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Health, announced nearly $750,000 in funding for McMaster University’s Preparing Providers to Recognize and Respond to Family Violence project.

"Front-line organizations in our communities often provide essential and life-saving services to those affected by family violence. Far too often, children and youth, women and LGBTQ2 people experience violence at home, and this funding will ensure community organizations are better prepared to support them. Ensuring that people have the training, tools and resources needed to respond to survivors is crucial to ensuring that survivors receive appropriate care in a safe and inclusive manner."

• Funding for this project is provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada as part of its Family Violence Prevention Investment and Canada’s Strategy to Prevent and Address Gender-Based Violence. 

• The eight professional associations that McMaster University will work with during the Preparing Providers to Recognize and Respond to Family Violence project are:

  • The Canadian Paediatric Society
  • The Canadian Psychiatric Association
  • The College of Family Physicians of Canada
  • The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada
  • The Canadian Association of Social Workers
  • The Child Welfare League of Canada
  • The Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians

• In addition to working with professional associations, McMaster University will collaborate with the University of Toronto, McGill University and the University of Calgary to expand the impact and reach of this suite of VEGA resources.
