What are the symptoms of chikungunya?
Chikungunya typically causes fever and arthritis-like joint pain. Other symptoms can include:
- rash
- fatigue
- nausea
- vomiting
- headache
- muscle pain
Symptoms can take up to 12 days to appear. However, symptoms usually appear within 3 to 7 days after an infected mosquito bites you.
Most people recover after a few days. However, in some cases, joint pain may last for weeks or months.
What do you do if you become ill?
Consult your health care provider if you:
- travelled to or lived in an area where chikungunya is present
- become ill with the listed symptoms
