Epidemiological Summary

During epidemiological week 1, 2016, one new case of measles was reported by OntarioFootnote 1. This case was an importation, linked to travel to Pakistan.

No cases of rubella were reported; it has been 96 weeks since the last reported rubella case (week 10, 2014).

The year-to-date total is 1 case of measles and 0 cases of rubella for 2016 (Figure 1).

Geographic Distribution

There is currently one active case of measles, reported in the Central East region of Ontario (Figure 2). There are no reported active cases of rubella in Canada (figure not shown).

To date in 2016, no other Canadian province or territory has reported any cases of measles or rubella.

Measles

To date in 2016, 1 measles case (reported by Ontario) has been genotyped and the genotype was B3 (Figure 3).

Rubella

To date in 2016, no rubella cases have been reported. As such, no genotype information is available.
