Translation Bureau invest in its future by Hiring Students

Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) is investing in youth and taking concrete steps to renew the Translation Bureau and reinforce its status as a centre of excellence in the delivery of high-quality translation and interpretation services.

On behalf of the Honourable Jim Carr, Acting Minister of Public Services and Procurement, Parliamentary Secretary Steven MacKinnon today met with students hired recently by the Translation Bureau. This event aligns with the Bureau efforts to develop the next generation of talented employees by hiring 59 students this summer under a co-op program or the Federal Student Work Experience Program. The Bureau plans to hire 50 students this fall, and will also offer practicums to six students enrolled in the master of Conference Interpretation program at the University of Ottawa. All these students will receive coaching from trained professionals.

In February 2017, the Honourable Judy M. Foote, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, appeared before the Standing Committee on Official Languages of the House of Commons and of the Senate to outline a number of measures to strengthen the Translation Bureau. In addition to hiring students the Bureau is adopting leading-edge practices. As well, under the leadership of Stéphan Déry as Chief Executive Officer, the Bureau plans to hire a Chief Quality Officer to ensure that its linguistic services are of the highest quality.
