Government of Canada amends invitation to qualify for third National Shipbuilding Strategy shipyard

Gatineau, Quebec, August 26, 2019 – The Government of Canada is committed to fair, open and transparent procurement processes. This includes keeping an open dialogue with interested suppliers and listening to their feedback during solicitations.

In response to industry feedback, we have recently made amendments to the invitation to qualify (ITQ) for a third National Shipbuilding Strategy shipyard.

Notably, we have corrected an inconsistency in the vessel dimensions that shipyards’ must be capable of building and launching. We have also provided additional clarity to the capacity section of the ITQ.

Given these changes, the Government of Canada has extended the ITQ deadline until August 30, 2019, to allow interested Canadian shipyards more time to prepare their submissions.

These changes underscore our commitment to ensure a fair process, as we work to identify a third strategic partner under the National Shipbuilding Strategy.
