Project description
Structural inspection of the boathouse, wharf and workshop has identified that the boathouse and wharf have reached the end of their service life. The boathouse and wharf will be replaced with similar structures with a smaller footprint. The workshop foundation will be rehabilitated to meet building code requirements.
In support of Indigenous reconciliation, the procurement process for construction was only open to Indigenous companies in accordance with the Set-aside Program for Indigenous Business. The project team contacted and consulted with the local Dokis First Nation as well as authorities having jurisdiction.
Construction began in fall 2023 and should be completed by spring 2024. There are no expected impacts to dam operations during construction.

Benefits to Canadians
This project will ensure reliable dam operations. The improvements to water management operations will help mitigate the impacts of increasingly frequent and intense weather events, which will make the environment safer for communities and contribute to climate change resiliency.
Project background
The French River Dams Complex includes a wharf, boathouse and workshop:
- the existing wharf consists of a timber crib structure and also serves as a retaining wall
- the existing boathouse is a single-storey building for boat entry and sheltered mooring
- the existing workshop is a single-storey building with 1 room housing a shop area and storing a variety of equipment and building materials
We are the custodian for the operation and maintenance of the structures within the complex. We regularly conduct repair and maintenance work to keep the dams working smoothly.
