Continue your child pension if you attend school after age 18
Eligible children between the ages of 18 and 25 can continue to receive the child pension for each year that they are enrolled in full-time attendance at a school, college, university or other educational institution that provides training or instruction of an educational, professional, vocational or technical nature.
Applying to have my child pension continue beyond age 18
To apply to have your child pension continue beyond age 18, you must complete the Declaration of Attendance at an Educational Institute (CF-FC 2002) form and have it stamped by the Registrar's Office of the educational institution that you are attending. Once you complete the form, you must send it to the Canadian Armed Forces Pension Centre to process your application. This must be done for each semester that you are in school. If you have been in receipt of a student allowance already, the forms are usually mailed out at the beginning of the fall and/or winter semesters.
How child pension is paid
When you send in the completed Declaration of Attendance at an Educational Institute (CF-FC 2002) form, include a void cheque or your banking information. The child pension is paid in equal monthly instalments and is subject to indexing (to keep up with the cost-of-living inflations). These allowances are taxable.
Re-apply for the child pension after returning to full-time studies
You may re-apply for the child pension as long as you are still under the age of 25 and are returning to full-time attendance at school.
Keep your group insurance coverage while you are a student
As a student, you have the option of applying for coverage under the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP) and the Pensioners' Dental Services Plan (PDSP) for as long as you remain entitled to the child pension.
