Canada to host the 52nd General Assembly of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations

News release

May 11, 2018        Ottawa        Canada Revenue Agency

The Government of Canada has made improving the services it offers Canadians a priority for the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) so that all Canadians feel like valued clients and not just taxpayers.

As part of this commitment, the CRA is working closely with its international partners to discuss best practices and ways to more effectively administer taxes. To that end, Canada will host the 52nd General Assembly of the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT) in Ottawa from May 15 to 17, 2018. Under the theme of “World Class Tax Administration,” hundreds of delegates will have the opportunity to examine the impact of tax administration on society, the state and international relations. Special guests from international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the World Bank Group will also attend the conference.

The CIAT General Assembly provides Canada with an opportunity to foster strong relationships with our international partners, including countries in North America, Latin America and the Caribbean. It also encourages global collaboration and coordination among tax administrations with a view to better information sharing. This information supports the CRA’s efforts in its fight against tax evasion and aggressive tax avoidance by strengthening its ability to identify tax evaders.

This event is not open to the media, but should journalists have questions, they are encouraged to contact CRA Media Relations at the coordinates below.
