Increase to Canada Carbon Rebate rural supplement
The Government of Canada has increased the CCR rural supplement from 10% to 20% of the base amount and eligibility is reverting back to using the 2016 Census data. This means those deemed ineligible under the 2021 Census data will again receive the rural supplement. The increased supplement and retroactive payments from April and July will be issued together in October’s payment.
The Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR) includes a 20% supplement for residents of small and rural communities.
The supplement applies only to residents of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia whose primary residence is outside a Census Metropolitan Area (CMA), and they expect to continue to reside outside the same CMA on April 1, 2024.
All CCR recipients of Prince Edward Island are eligible for the rural supplement and it is included in their basic amount.

The increase to the rural supplement from 10% to 20% has received Royal Assent.

Residents will begin to receive their rural supplement starting in April 2024. The payment will include a retroactive rural supplement amount for the July 2023 to January 2024 period as well.
