Manitoba - Disability Tax Credit (DTC) Renewal Form – Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
Starting in December of 2025, disability tax credit (DTC) eligible individuals in Manitoba whose eligibility is expiring in 2025 or 2026, may be invited to use the DTC Renewal Form. Complete the renewal form instead of the standard Form T2201, Disability Tax Credit Certificate to renew your DTC eligibility with less paperwork and faster completion.
What is the DTC Renewal Form
The DTC Renewal Form is a new 2-page form for eligible individuals who have previously been approved for the DTC and whose medical condition has not improved. This shorter application is currently being tested in the fall of 2025 as a test project in Manitoba to help certain eligible individuals and their medical practitioners.
This test project aims to streamline the renewal process and is part of the CRA’s efforts to improve client experience for both applicants and medical practitioners.
This form is currently available by invitation only. Applicants who meet the criteria will be sent a personalized DTC Renewal Form package by mail to the mailing address we have on file.
Who can use the DTC Renewal Form
You may be invited to use the DTC Renewal Form if all of the following apply to you:
- Live in Manitoba
- Were over 18 at the time of your last application
- Have a previous DTC eligibility that is expiring in 2025 or 2026
- Continue to have marked restrictions or limitations in daily activities, consistent with your previous approval
- There has been no significant improvement in the restrictions or limitations that qualified you for the DTC
If you haven’t received an invitation to use the DTC Renewal Form, you can still renew your DTC by following the standard application process available here:
What marked restriction means:
- You are unable to do the activity, or it takes 3 times longer than someone of similar age without the impairment, even with the use of appropriate therapy, medication, and devices
- This restriction is present all or almost all of the time (generally at least 90%)
- The restriction has lasted or is expected to last for a continuous period of at least 12 months
How the test project works
This test project:
- Is open exclusively for residents of Manitoba who hold a valid DTC eligibility expiring in 2025 or 2026.
- Will invite participants to join using a personalized CRA-issued letter inviting them to renew their eligibility using the enclosed renewal form
- Will be used to test the effectiveness of a shorter form for eligibility renewals.
- Will inform the next steps of the renewal process for all eligible individuals.
- Will provide additional information which may lead to improvements on the existing T2201
In addition to simplifying the renewal process, participating in the test project will help improve the DTC program for all Canadians.
