Meetings with National Leaders and Organizations

Meetings will be taking place with national leaders and organizations including the Assembly of First Nations, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Native Women's Association of Canada and the Métis National Council to develop an Indigenous engagement plan for the review.

Expert Panel

As outlined in their Terms of Reference, the Expert Panel will travel across Canada in fall 2016 to meet with Indigenous people, and hear their views and ideas about improving environmental assessment processes.

Multi-Interest Advisory Committee

Representatives from Indigenous organizations will be part of a Multi-Interest Advisory Committee, who will provide advice to the Expert Panel as they conduct the review.

Participant Funding Program

Funding is available to Indigenous groups to support their participation in the review of environmental assessment processes. Apply by September 9, 2016 at Canada.ca/environmentalreviews.

Timelines

June 20, 2016

Launch of the review of environmental assessment processes.

August 15, 2016

Expert Panel established.

August 2016

Multi-Interest Advisory Committee holds its first meeting. Meetings are ongoing throughout the review.

September 9, 2016

Deadline to apply for participant funding.

Fall 2016

Expert Panel meets with and solicits input from Canadians.

January 2017

Expert Panel provides its report with recommendations to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change.
