Public Statements of Strategic Environmental and Economic Assessments
As of April 1, 2024, the Cabinet Directive on Strategic Environmental and Economic Assessment (SEEA) requires departments and agencies to publish public statements when a proposal triggers a detailed environmental or economic analysis. These statements must be released once the proposal is announced or implemented.
The goal of these statements is to show that environmental and economic impacts were considered during the development and decision-making processes.
This new requirement replaces and builds on previous disclosure requirements under the former Cabinet Directive on the Environmental Assessment of Policy, Plan and Program Proposals, which required Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEAs). That directive has now been rescinded.
Departments and agencies post these public statements online. Below, you’ll find links to the public registries where organizations post both SEEA and SEA statements. This list will grow as more organizations set up their own registries.
