Consultation on Proposed Regulations on Monitoring Medical Assistance in Dying

Health Canada is seeking comments on proposed regulations on monitoring medical assistance in dying, which result from new authorities in An Act to amend the Criminal Code and to make related amendments to other Acts (Medical Assistance in Dying).

Why

Legislation passed in June 2016 on medical assistance in dying requires the Minister of Health to make regulations respecting the provision, collection, use and disposal of information for the purpose of monitoring its implementation. Monitoring is important to give Canadians a clear picture of how the legislation is working, and to understand its impact across the country.

The purpose of this consultation is to get comments on proposed regulations requiring medical practitioners, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists to file reports related to requests for and provision of medical assistance in dying.
