News Release

April 13, 2017 - Ottawa, Ontario - Office of the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman

The Taxpayers’ Ombudsman, Sherra Profit, visited the province of Québec during the week of April 3-7, 2017. The Ombudsman spent the week reaching out and building relationships with stakeholders in Québec City, Shawinigan, and Montréal.

To raise awareness about the role of her Office, the Ombudsman met members of the Barreau du Québec and the Centre de justice de proximité, as well as representatives of the réseau FADOQ, a network that protects the interests and rights of seniors. She also met volunteers at a tax preparation clinic located in Montréal.

During her stay, the Ombudsman visited the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Shawinigan-Sud Tax Centre, and exchanged information about mandates and complaint processes with representatives from the Protecteur du Citoyen and the Bureau de la protection des droits de la clientèle at Revenu Québec.

Throughout these events, the Ombudsman raised awareness about her role and how her office can help resolve complaints from taxpayers who are not satisfied with the service they received from the CRA. She also learned about the service issues that impact certain groups with which she met.

Quotes

“Having the opportunity to meet various people who assist taxpayers gives me a very personal and informed perspective on which to act. Ensuring taxpayers are familiar with our services and what we can do to assist them has been a priority since I became the Taxpayers’ Ombudsman.”
