Alternative to the experience criterion in the Spoken Language – Current Political Affairs field and the Parliamentary Documents field
Given the demand in the Spoken Language – Current Political Affairs and the Parliamentary Documents field and the difficulty for suppliers to gain the experience required by the RFSAs to qualify in these fields (100,000 words translated in the last five years), the Translation Bureau has come up with an alternative to the experience criterion: an information session followed by an exam.
- Format: online
- Cost: free
- Length: 1 half day for the information session, and 2 to 3 hours a week later for the exam
- Number of spots: If your translation team consists of more than 1 person, all team members are encouraged to attend the information session, but only 1 will be able to sit the exam. The Translation Bureau reserves the right to limit spots based on capacity
- Prerequisite: Before registering for the information session, make sure that you are able to satisfy the other criteria of either of the RFSAs
- after attending the information session and passing the exam, you will have to satisfy these other criteria and enter into a SA in order to provide the Bureau with translation services
To register, please email btformation.tbtraining@tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca with the subject line "Information session and exam for suppliers in the Spoken Language – Current Political Affairs field" or "Information session and exam for suppliers in the Parliamentary Documents field," depending on which field you are interested in. Make sure the email includes:
- the name of your company
- the number of people who will be attending the information session
- the name of the person who will sit the exam
- your language combination (English to French, French to English, or both)
- the language in which you would like to take the sessions
The Translation Bureau will then contact you with the dates and times of the next sessions.
Security clearance
Suppliers themselves cannot request security clearance. They must be sponsored by a federal department. Only after they have passed the Translation Bureau’s accreditation exam or have been registered in its directory of suppliers can the Translation Bureau sponsor them if it finds that they need such clearance.
