Description

In this first part, we will discuss the Constitution of Canada and certain related terms, the Canadian legal system, and how to translate the terms “under,” “jurisdiction” and “legal.”

Language professionals with no legal training who are called upon to translate or revise texts with legal content will gain useful contextual information and tools to help them with their work.

Prerequisite

You must already be involved in translating or revising English-to-French texts.

Language

The workshop is given in French; however, you are welcome to use the official language of your choice.

Learning objectives

At the end of the workshop, you will:

  • have a basic knowledge of Canada’s legal and judicial systems
  • be able to find solutions to certain legal translation problems
  • be familiar with the main sources and resources to consult for the translation of legal or paralegal documents
