Practical comparative stylistics (French to English) (SFE-253)
This workshop is offered in English only and is reserved for people translating or revising French-to-English texts.

-

- Description
-
As a translator, you know that a good English translation reflects the French while sounding like natural English—this is where human translators outshine machines. But do you ever find yourself struggling to make your translations sound more idiomatic? This workshop will help.
You’ll learn some principles of comparative stylistics, including the names for principles you may already be using. You’ll have the opportunity to apply these principles consciously in discussions and group exercises that will focus on the practical rather than the theoretical. The tools you’ll gain will help you be more confident in your ability to produce good translations.
