Prince Edward Island Designated Paid Holiday

Date: January 19, 2009

To: Compensation Managers, Directors / Chiefs Labour Relations

The purpose of this bulletin is to advise departments of the recognized designated paid holiday in Prince Edward Island pursuant to the various collective agreements. This is in response to the decision by the provincial government to adopt the 2nd Monday in February as a statutory holiday.

Public service collective agreements provide for eleven (11) designated paid holidays, including a day recognized by the Employer to be a provincial or civic holiday. Despite the addition of the Islander Day, to be celebrated the 2nd Monday of February, collective agreements do not provide for an additional provincial holiday. Consequently, the recognized designated paid holiday remains the 1st Monday of August.

Departmental Compensation and Labour Relations Managers should direct any questions that they may have to the appropriate departmental corporate official who, if need be, can contact the appropriate officers at the Treasury Board Secretariat.
