This allocation, in an amount up to $16,246,614, is provided to those institutions that were successful in the first Canada First Research Excellence Fund competition. The purpose of this grant is to help Canadian post-secondary institutions excel globally by providing large-scale grants to research projects that enable recipients to position themselves as world leaders in their field, increasing their ability to produce innovative and cutting-edge research and attracting elite talent including both researchers and students. |

Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development | Funding to implement the Government's response to the Syrian refugee crisis This allocation allows Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development to meet expenses, up to $9,138,618, in support of the re-settlement of Syrian refugees to Canada. The funds support diplomatic and bilateral engagement with Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey and increased capacity at Canada's missions abroad to aid the re-settlement effort. As a common service provider for the Government, the Department is responsible for accommodation services, safe transportation at processing sites, security training, and security assessments of sites. |
