When We Train

September to June:

  • Thursday evenings
  • 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • one weekend per month.

Full-time summer employment is available from May to August.

36 Combat Engineer Regiment (36 CER) is a Primary Reserve engineering regiment of the Canadian Armed Forces. The regiment headquarters is located in CFB Shearwater.

The 36 CER mission is to contribute to the mobility, counter-mobility, survivability, and general engineer support of the Canadian Armed Forces. Their roles are to conduct combat operations, support the Canadian Armed Forces in war and peace, support national development, provide assistance to civil authorities, and support international aid programs.

Combat Engineers serve wherever the need arises. Their responsibilities encompass the use of demolitions and land mines, the design, construction and maintenance of defensive works and fortifications, lines of communications, and bridges. They also provide water purification and develop maps and other engineering intelligence. In addition, military engineers are experts in deception and concealment, as well as the design and development of equipment necessary to carry out these operations.

36 Combat Engineer Regiment (36 CER) was stood up as a Regiment in October 2012 with the addition of 20 Engineer Squadron. 36 CER originates from "45th Field Squadron RCE", which was located in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, and was authorized to be formed on 5 June 1947. It was re-designated "45th Field Engineer Squadron (M)" on 21 May 1975 and then "45th Field Engineer Squadron" on 4 September 1992. Currently 36 CER consists of a Regimental Headquarters and two Field Squadrons providing general engineer support to 36 Brigade. The Regimental Headquarters and 20 Engineer Squadron are located in Halifax (Shearwater), Nova Scotia, and 45 Engineer Squadron is located in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
