The Impacts of Contributions
Paul Thompson, 2024 Campaign Chair and Nancy Hamzawi, 2024 Co-Chair, visited member organizations from the Named Recipients, United Way Centraide (Operation Come Home in Ottawa, and La Soupe Populaire de Hull) and heard testimonials from the HealthPartners’ member organizations as part of an impact tour earlier this fall.
“We came away from these visits with a stronger appreciation of the positive and far-reaching impacts these organizations are having within communities daily.ˮ
Together, we continue to bring positive change to our communities by donating through the Campaign.

Did you know?
The Named Recipients – HealthPartners and United Way Centraide – use research, local knowledge, and community partnerships to make informed investment decisions, maximizing the impact of donations.
United Way Centraide is a national network of local experts committed to bringing people and organizations together to meet immediate community needs — and tackle the complex social issues at the root of those needs. By uniting the power of people, organizations, and resources, they’re creating awareness, inspiring action, and advancing positive change in communities nationwide.
At some point in their lives, 9 out of 10 Canadians are likely to be affected by one or more of the major illnesses HealthPartners charities are working to eradicate. A donation to HealthPartners helps 17 of Canada’s most well-respected health charities conduct critical research, provide evidence-based health information, enhance quality of life to patients, and improve access to care. When asked what you did at work today, say you changed a life.
Visit the Named Recipients page for information on the dollar impacts of contributions through the GCWCC.

Campaign Tips
Why is canvassing so important?
In a workplace campaign, it is critical to canvass first and to canvass at every activity. Why? Here are a few reasons:
- 90% of campaign revenue comes from direct employee donations.
- A donation is 5-7 times higher than an event contributions.
- Canvassing first ensures that there will be no donor fatigue when asking for donations.
- Canvassing takes minimal resources (time, effort, money) with the most return on investment.
Here are some helpful tips on how to approach the conversation when asking for a donation:
- Share your experience / reason for giving to the Campaign.
- Share information about the impact of donations (explore the webpage for helpful messages).
- Be a good listener and answer any questions.
- Ensure a direct Ask – don’t pressure!
- Thank colleagues for their time, regardless of their decision.
The Impact of the Named Recipients
United Way Centraide
Tivadar was able to get the support he needs to be ready to start school through United Way funded programs.

Two-year-old Tivadar struggled with severe language delays, which affected his learning and strained his father’s limited resources.
Unfortunately, for too many reasons, thousands of kids fall through the cracks in terms of development, leaving parents to their own devices (and deductions) to set the path straight. But, Zsolt was lucky: he found a United Way–funded agency that offered the assistance he desperately sought.

HealthPartners
Meet Manon Desbiens. Two of her sisters and her brother had Huntington’s disease.

My family and I were in the dark and not functioning well at all until the Huntington Society came to the rescue.
In November 2011, Alfred discovered that he was a Duchenne carrier. At about the same time, he and his wife Marie-Ève were told that their little boy, who was 4 years old at the time, had Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a rare hereditary degenerative neuromuscular disease with no known cure.
HealthPartners and the Huntington Society have played an active role in the lives of the Desbiens family. “My sisters and brother went to summer camp every year. For them, it was a very liberating experience. And for us, the caregivers, these organizations offered us respite trips so we could have a chance to recharge our batteries s,” continues Manon.
