News release

HALIFAX, April 24, 2019

Creativity and innovation were in the spotlight today as Andy Fillmore, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism and Member of Parliament (Halifax), was at home in Halifax to talk about one of the first projects to receive funding from the new Creative Export Canada program launched by Canadian Heritage in June. Mr. Fillmore made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism.

The 20 projects chosen include the Discovery Centre International in Halifax, and will share a total of nearly $7.8 million in funding.

Exporting is vitally important to Canada’s creative industries. It gives creators an opportunity to shine on the world stage and generates significant economic benefits at home by creating jobs and fostering social prosperity.

Parliamentary Secretary Fillmore said he was proud to see a local organization shine and carve out such an enviable place on the global scene. He took the opportunity to reaffirm the Government of Canada’s commitment to help businesses in the creative sector maximize their export potential.

Representatives from the Discovery Centre International attending the announcement emphasized the importance of this funding to the success of the Centre’s project to export Canadian scientific exhibitions abroad.

The Creative Export Canada program is for Canadian businesses ready to export a project that showcases creative content. Its mission is to make Canada’s creative industries more profitable. Creative Export Canada will accept new applications for funding in the fall of 2019.
