1. The 2013-14 Report on Plans and Priorities (RPP) provides the forecasted full and incremental costs for fiscal year (FY) 2012-13. The 2012-13 Departmental Performance Report (DPR) provides final actual full and incremental costs for FY 2012-13.
2. "Full DND Cost" is the sum of incremental cost plus the salaries of Regular Force personnel, equipment depreciation, command and support cost, as well as the operating cost of some major equipment, such as aircraft, that are within normal planned activity rates and, therefore, had not been included in incremental cost.
3. "Incremental DND Cost" is the additional costs for personnel and equipment that are directly attributable to the Canadian Armed Forces operation. More specifically, incremental costs include the additional cost to deploy troops and equipment and to provide ongoing maintenance and support during the applicable operation, in addition to any specialized training required for the operation. DND does not include the full capital acquisition cost of major equipment in incremental cost, unless procured specifically for the mission with no life expectancy post operation, as this equipment will not be used in other CAF operations.
4. OP SCULPTURE - Terminated 31 March 2013.
5. OP CROCODILE (République Démocratique du Congo) - Manning was reduced in FY 2012-13 from previous FY as per plan in RPP.
6. UNMISS – OP SOPRANO (Juba, South Sudan) - Canada's engagement in South Sudan.
7. UNAMID - OP SATURN (Darfur) - Canada's engagement in Sudan.
8. OP ATHENA/TRANSITION - Includes expenses incurred in Afghanistan for storage of remaining materiel ($5.7M) until Ground lines of communications open and expenses for reconstitution activities conducted in Canada.
9. OP ARTEMIS - The increase in costs is largely due to the underestimation of ship's fuel costs at the time of the RPP.
10. OP SAIPH - Terminated 31 May 2012.
11. MINUSTAH - OP HAMLET (Haiti) - Operation pre-deployment training overlapping two FY's which reduced actual cost.
12. OP IGNITION - Mission took place 18 March - 15 April 2013, overlapping two FY's. This resulted in a higher than anticipated expenditures in FY 2012-13.
13. OP METRIC - Canada's participation in international efforts to enhance security in the eastern Mediterranean region, specifically the Middle East and North Africa.
14. Air Task Force Mali - This includes the provision of C-17 strategic air lift support to the French Government.
15. Other - Includes support contracts covering various missions.
16. Revenues/recoveries - UN reimbursement of Multinational Force Observers for FY 2012-13.
