Join us during Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month 2023: A message from the Defence Team Mental Health Champions
October 4, 2023 - Defence Stories
Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month is an opportunity to reflect on what helps each one of us feel valued, safe, and healthy, both at work and in our personal lives.
Regardless of level, rank, location, or whether we are military members or public service employees, Defence Team members face unique experiences and challenges. Promoting health and wellness in the workplace helps create a safer, healthier, and more inclusive environment for all.
Defence Team members are invited to participate in activities and events highlighting this year’s weekly themes throughout the month of October:
- Diversity in the workplace;
- Physical and mental health well-being;
- Community; and
- Social wellness.
How can you get involved?
No matter where you are located, there are many opportunities this month to get involved in events and activities both in-person and virtually. For a full list of activities, consult the Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month activity calendar to:
- participate in weekly healthy workplace challenges;
- register for webinars on stigma and working relationships; and
- access the wide array of services and resources that are available for military members and public service employees to help build and maintain personal health and overall well-being.
October also marks the annual Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 1-8), and World Mental Health Day on October 10, two additional opportunities to reflect on, and raise awareness of, the realities of mental health issues, and mobilize efforts in support of mental health.
Where can you get support?
We would like to remind you of the new and enhanced Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for public service employees, which is a professional, confidential, and proactive service to support employees and their family members with a wide range of personal, family, and work-related concerns.
CAF members can continue to receive support through the Canadian Forces Member Assistance Program (CFMAP), as well as a range of other programs and services to support members and their families.
This Canada Healthy Workplace Month, let’s continue our efforts to promote healthy workplace practices and improve psychological health and safety at work.
Thank you for doing your part.
