According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, approximately 4,750 people in Canada die by suicide each year. As noted in the 2025 Report on Suicide Mortality in the Canadian Armed Forces (1995-2024), 21 Regular and Primary Reserve service members died by suicide in 2024. Every death by suicide is a tragedy and has a profound ripple effect impacting many others, including those grieving a loss, people who have faced suicidal thoughts themselves, and family members, friends, and caregivers supporting someone in crisis.
World Suicide Prevention Day serves as a reminder that help, hope, and support are available, and that no one must face life’s challenges alone.

Talking openly or learning about suicide can be difficult or uncomfortable, but it is one of the most important things we can do to support one another.
Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members have access to resources that can help. Through the Canadian Forces Member Assistance Program (CFMAP), members can access LifeSpeak, a confidential wellness platform that offers expert-led resources on mental health, suicide prevention, supporting others, grief, and reducing mental health stigma.
Having access to reliable information can help you better understand warning signs, respond with empathy, support someone in need, and feel more confident navigating difficult conversations. To help you navigate these discussions, LifeSpeak has highlighted key expert-led resources for CAF members.
