Chief Warrant Officer Heidi Twellmann was born in British Columbia and grew up in a Bradner, approximately one hour east of Vancouver. She has a degree in Music Performance on the French horn, from the University of British Columbia. CWO Twellmann has served with the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force in various capacities and numerous locations in Canada. Her career with the Canadian Armed Forces began in October of 1990, spending eight years with the Band of the 15th Field Regiment, RCA in Vancouver, BC, in the Army Primary Reserve. Before joining the Regular Force, she freelanced as a musician with symphony orchestras and during the summer months was employed as the French horn instructor for the Primary Reserve, at what is now called CFLTC Music Division, at CFB Borden, Ontario.
In 1998, CWO Twellmann did a component transfer to the Regular Force. Between 1998 and 2012, she was posted to four of the six Regular Force Bands: Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces, Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, Stadacona Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, and the Royal Canadian Air Force Band. Upon successful completion of her Qualification Level 7 in 2012, she was promoted to Master Warrant Officer and posted to the RCAF Band in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where for three years she held the position of Senior Warrant Officer and Assistant Director of Music. In 2015 she was selected for an out of trade position at 1 Canadian Air Division Headquarters, as Visits, Protocol and Awards Officer.
In 2017, CWO Twellmann was posted to the Canadian Forces Language School in Gatineau, Quebec, where she successfully completed second language training and was then posted to the Directorate of History and Heritage - Music, as the Senior Standards and Training Manager for the Music Branch. In August 2020 she was promoted to her current rank of Chief Warrant Officer and became the Senior Occupational Advisor for the Musician occupation and appointed Music Branch Chief Warrant Officer. Since 15 June 2023, CWO Twellmann has been a member of the Chief Professional Conduct and Culture Command, serving as the Director General Conflict Solutions and Services Chief Warrant Officer.
CWO Twellmann is a passionate supporter of the CAF sports program, recognizing its significance to one’s personal fitness and how participation in CAF sports provides an invaluable professional network. She was an active participant, supporter, and advocate of the CAF volleyball program for more than 20 years. As a member of the CAF Women’s CISM (Conseil International du Sport Militaire) volleyball team she also competed in several Military World Championships and Games and held the position of Team Manager. Since hanging up her volleyball knee pads, CWO Twellmann has taken up the sport of golf, competing in several CAF Regionals and CAF Nationals.
In May of 2023, CWO Twellmann was invested into the Order of Military Merit.
