Sexual Misconduct Response Support
If you are a Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) member affected by sexual misconduct, you can call a Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre counsellor toll-free 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for:
- confidential supportive counselling
- information
- referrals
You can also get support, information and guidance from the Centre if you:
- assist a CAF member who has experienced sexual misconduct
- have received a disclosure of sexual misconduct
Centre counsellors:
- listen with compassion
- focus on your unique situation and needs
- describe available options so you can make well-informed choices
- devote the necessary time and attention to every conversation with you
- explain how the Centre can help you
- facilitate referrals to other services and programs
The counsellors can also refer you to a military liaison officer or a military police liaison officer for information and guidance on reporting sexual misconduct. You can be referred anonymously if you request it.
Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre support services are confidential within prescribed legal limits. There is no requirement to provide your name or any identifying information to counsellors.
Support and assistance for Defence Team civilians
Defence Team civilians who intend to participate in the Department of National Defence and CAF Sexual Misconduct Class Action Final Settlement Agreement can obtain support, information and referrals to services for which they are eligible through the Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre.
Additional support and assistance for Defence Team civilians is available through the Employee Assistance Program.
Response and Support Coordination Program
If you are a CAF member and have experienced sexual misconduct, you can obtain ongoing support and assistance from a dedicated Response and Support coordinator.
Response and Support coordinators can provide ongoing assistance to help you navigate systems and processes. This assistance can include:
- supportive counselling
- information and referrals to resources and services
- advocacy to help you meet your needs
- accompaniment to appointments, meetings and proceedings
- assistance with workplace arrangements
- other practical assistance
You may withdraw from the program at any time.
To join the Response and Support Coordination Program, contact a Sexual Misconduct Support and Resource Centre counsellor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ask to self-refer to the program.
You will be contacted by a coordinator during business hours: 7 am to 5 pm, Eastern Time.
