Description

This event will bring together the members of the Benefits Delivery Modernization Deputy Minsters Advisory Committee and private-sector System Integrators and their Global Leaders in an opportunity to engage in strategic and free-style discussions. This is a follow up to October's DM roundtable, and an opportunity to provide System Integrators a chance to respond to a series of questions asked by the DMs. The scope of these questions included understanding how to overcome challenges of large scale, complex transformation in the domain of Social Security.

2018 to 2019 EI Monitoring and Assessment Report (MAR) – Chapter 4

Description

The annual Employment Insurance (EI) Monitoring and Assessment Report is a public report that tells the story of how the Department’s EI program affects clients by highlighting how EI projects and initiatives conducted in 2018-19 produced results for Canadians. Chapter 4 of the Report is focused on program results, and is the responsibility of TISMB to draft in consultation with colleagues across Service Canada and across the Department.

Decision required: A draft of this year’s annual report will be shared with the Chief Operating Officer and Commissioners at the end of January 2020 and final Chief Operating Officer approval of Chapter 4 will be required by February 10, 2020 to meet annual publication timelines. The full report will be approved by the Commissioners and by Deputy Flack.

Service Canada Final Report to the Federal Court re: Employment Insurance Sickness Benefits Class Action

Description

The Settlement Agreement approved by the Federal Court in the class proceeding between Jennifer McCrea (plaintiff) and the Attorney General of Canada (defendant) stipulates that ESDC is required to submit its final report on the administration of the EI Sickness Benefits Class Action to the Federal Court by February 17, 2020.

Decision required: The Chief Operating Officer will be required to approve the report prior to submitting it to the Federal Court.

Deputy Ministers Advisory Committee

Description

The Chief Operating Officer is the vice-chair of this committee that is chaired by Deputy Flack. The Committee provides strategic advice in the definition and implementation of the Benefits Delivery Modernization programme. DMs from key partner departments are members. The last official meeting was in May 2019, although members were brought together in October 2020 for a roundtable event with private-sector System Integrators.

Passport Program Modernization Initiative

Description

The Citizen Service Branch expects Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada to launch the second phase of their Information Technology plan for the Passport Program Modernization Initiative, which involves the full integration of the new intake tool, Tempo, with the Global Case Management System automation platform. This will allow for end-to-end processing of passport applications, and is needed before Employment and Social Development Canada will consider moving to the pre-pilot phase at the Gatineau processing centre. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s scheduled date for this release is February 25, 2020.

Benefits Delivery Modernization Sponsoring Group

Description

The Chief Operating Officer is the vice-chair of this committee that is chaired by Deputy Flack. The Sponsoring Group sets the strategic direction for the Benefits Delivery Modernization programme and ensures its alignment with the department’s overall strategic direction. Membership comprises all ADMs from Service Canada, key ADMs from Employment and Social Development Canada and ADMs from key partner departments. It meets quarterly with the last meeting held in December 2019.

Security Awareness Week

Description

Security Awareness Week is a government-wide event taking place in February each year. It is a great opportunity to raise awareness and promote security using engaging and innovative methods. At Employment and Social Development Canada, this national awareness campaign is built on results and lessons learned from the previous year and involves collaborative efforts between the Integrity Services Branch, the Innovation, Information and Technology Branch, the five Regional Security Offices, and the Public Affairs and Stakeholder Relations Branch.

Canada Pension Plan Service Improvement Strategy

Description

As part of the Canada Pension Plan Service Improvement Strategy, the Department will launch a Canada Pension Plan Disability online application by mid-January (date to be determined) in response to Canadians increasing expectations to access on-line Government services.

Consistent with previous launches of online services, external communications, such as a news release and social media campaign, are being prepared for late February/early March 2020 following first-month results. This approach allows for the Department to identify any unexpected issues with the solution or the procedures. Web content will be updated as of the go-live date providing clients the option to apply online.

As chair of the committee, the Chief Operating Officer will host an in-person meeting of the Service Advisory Committee. The Service Advisory Committee is composed of 10 external experts who provide guidance and informal advice to the Chief Operating Officer on service delivery with a view to improving the delivery of Employment and Social Development Canada programs and services to Canadians and businesses.
