News Release

March 1, 2017               Ottawa, Ontario          Employment and Social Development Canada

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, announced that the Convention on Social Security between Canada and the Republic of Peru enters into force today, March 1, 2017.

This Convention will coordinate the operation of Canada’s Old Age Security and Canada Pension Plan programs with certain comparable social security programs of Peru that provide pensions for retirement, old age, disability and survivors.

It will also result in direct savings for Canadian companies operating in Peru since they will no longer be required to pay social security contributions to the Peruvian pension system on behalf of their Canadian employees working temporarily in Peru. This will promote investment and trade.
