Each year the Audit and Evaluation Branch (AEB) of Environment Canada (EC) conducts a comprehensive planning exercise to ensure the Branch's resources will be used efficiently and effectively, in order to provide the most value to EC senior management and the Deputy Minister (DM).

This Integrated Risk-Based Audit and Evaluation Plan (RBAEP) combines both the audit plan for the next three years (2014-15 to 2016-17) and the evaluation plan for the next five years (2014-15 to 2018-19), as well as outlines AEB’s strategic priorities.  The essential objective of this Integrated Plan is to allocate Branch resources to areas of most significant risk and priority to the Department, and to respond to the requirements of Treasury Board (TB) Policies on Internal Audit and Evaluation.

The Department's External Audit Advisory Committee (EAAC) reviewed the audit plan and recommended it to the Deputy Minister for approval.  The evaluation plan was also presented to the Departmental Evaluation Committee (DEC) for review and comment.  This RBAEP was approved by the Deputy Minister effective June 30, 2014. Two noteworthy events impacted the timely approval of this 2014 RBAEP: the appointment of a new Deputy Minister in July, and the revisions to the evaluation plan necessitated by changes in the Government's schedule and approach for the renewal of sunsetter programs.
